From 1999 to 2001, J was a name partner in Premo & Hernandez LLP, an Albany litigation firm handling personal injury and criminal defense matters. For the next three years he concentrated on criminal defense as a solo practitioner. In 2004, with Trey Smith he founded Smith Hernandez LLC, a litigation firm with emphases in criminal defense, personal injury and product liability.
J has prosecuted and defended several high-profile homicides and other criminal cases. He has been appointed to defense of death penalty cases. The Brooklyn, New York native is fluent in Spanish.
