Welcome to the Law Offices of James F. Hughes, where you won’t be overwhelmed with a lot of legal terms, statutes of law, or information you don’t need. That’s why I’m here. What I offer is the best legal defense I can provide, while giving you a comfort level at a time when you need it most.

I followed my dream, and entered law school after completing 20 years in the New York State Police, retiring as a patrol supervisor. While as a state trooper, and later as a defense lawyer, I have observed that the majority of people who get into legal trouble are not bad; they are good people who may have made bad choices or done things completely out of character.

If you are arrested you need legal advice from an attorney who has the training, background and experience to minimize or eliminate the negative impact this arrest can have on the rest of your life. The prompt intervention of a competent attorney who is familiar with the legal issues of the matter is critical. It is to your advantage to have a lawyer who knows the law from BOTH sides. MY EXPERIENCE IS YOUR BEST DEFENSE.

I am committed to the defense of those who have been arrested on DWI/DUI and criminal charges, as well as vehicle and traffic infractions. See Practice Areas for more detail.

When you call my office, you will speak to me personally, and I will evaluate your problem and recommend a course of action. I pride myself on maintaining a strong line of communication with my clients. Entrust me with your legal problems and you will have the benefit of my 40+ years experience in the criminal and vehicle and traffic field. You will have my personal attention, and will always be treated with dignity and respect.

My two locations serve the “capital district” in upstate New York, which includes, among others, Saratoga, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Washington and Warren counties.
